Testimonial from a New Member of Staff
After working in an NHS based Care Company, I vowed to never work as a home care assistant ever again. I had a very bad experience of care work, working 15 hour shifts on a daily basis, rushing from one client to the next, and not feeling like I had spent as much time with a client as they needed. I didn’t feel like I had a duty of care and I believed that every care company was the same.
But then I found Sally and Sarah, and their philosophy for care really changed my opinion on the caring profession – to treat clients how we would like to be treated ourselves. At first I was sceptical about applying as I didn’t want to work in another stressful workplace, but I have never looked back and I am the happiest that I have ever been in a job.
The minimum time that we offer clients is 45 minutes, which is absolutely brilliant as we have enough time to fulfil our duty of care and also get to know the client on a personal level. Being a small company, we do build up relationships with our clients and their families which makes the job more enjoyable, and I even refer to ‘going to work’ as ‘going to see my friends’. Whether I am delivering personal care, sitting in with a client, or taking them out shopping – I love every minute of it.
The staff that I work alongside are also fantastic as we support each other throughout our work. Sally and Sarah are always looking to help us better ourselves at work and encourage us to do extra training. I have recently completed my manual handling training and will soon be doing my first aid, food hygiene, and dementia care training. I will also be starting my NVQ in Health and Social Care later in the year. We also get regular feedback from our clients to help us deliver the best quality of care.
I urge anybody that was in my situation to come and see Sally and Sarah for them self and discover what amazing opportunities lie ahead. I swore to never go back into care work, and now I can’t think of anything else that I would like to do. I love my job and I can’t thank Sally and Sarah enough for that.
